Reports to: VP Marketing

Salary: $115,000–$130,000 + benefits & stipends + equity (more details below)

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced content leader who has mastered today’s content marketing playbook, and is already building what the next one looks like.

You can do SEO-driven content strategy in your sleep: you know what moves rankings, how to integrate in original data and quotes, and how to structure a blog post that actually converts.

You’re fluent in content best practices of the past, and now you’re anticipating the next chapter like what happens when content stops being just readable and starts being usable by AI, referred to by GPTs, and enhancing content through interactive formats. You’re curious, and actively experimenting and testing the edges of what content can be.

This role is 20% strategy, 80% execution, perfect for someone who can zoom out to see the big picture, then roll up their sleeves to bring that vision to life through exceptional content and format experimentation. While you’ll be in the weeds daily: writing, editing, planning, and publishing, you’ll also be innovating, shipping new formats, and pushing the boundaries of what content can do. You’ll also have a small freelance budget to help scale your work.

You’ll collaborate closely with our VP of Marketing as a strategic thought partner, co-developing strategy and refining direction together. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role focused on building pipeline through content that resonates with HR and Finance buyers, and helps our sales team close more deals.

What you'll do

  • Own and evolve Compt’s content strategy, from blogs and long-form guides to whatever’s next. You’ll execute what works today while experimenting with future-forward content formats (like AI-powered tools, interactive calculators, lightweight apps).
  • Own our content roadmap, mapping out what to refresh, creating content from scratch, and repurposing rich assets like podcasts, webinars, and internal interviews into high-performing content.
  • Develop subject matter expertise on topics our buyers care about most, benefits, stipends, perks, HR strategy, budget alignment, and use that knowledge to create content (yourself and with freelancers) that’s accurate, genuinely helpful for our readers, and moves buyers through the funnel.
  • Maintain a strong SEO foundation, with a focus on organic performance, EEAT, and keeping content current with what search engines (and GPTs) consider trustworthy and authoritative.
  • Leverage AI tools and stay AI-involved, using technologies like Frase, ChatGPT, and Perplexity to streamline content workflows and help us adapt to the future of search and discovery.
  • Analyze and report on performance weekly, monthly, and quarterly, using tools like GA4, AHREFs, and Frase to inform what’s working, what’s not, and determine where to double-down.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Product, and Sales to source ideas and shape narratives.
  • Be highly coachable, adaptable, and biased toward action. We value people who get things done, love feedback, and are eager to grow alongside a fast-moving team.

What you'll own

  • The entire content system including strategy, roadmap, execution, and experimentation across formats that drive traffic, engagement, and pipeline.
  • Blog, SEO content, long-form assets, and select web pages ensuring quality and consistency across everything published.
  • Content-attributed growth metrics including traffic, keyword growth, engagement, and SQLs – plus the reporting of these on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting to expedite learnings.
  • Our experimentation muscle by testing new content types (interactive tools, AI-powered apps, original research, etc.) that push us beyond traditional formats.
  • Freelancer resources which includes leveraging in-house (you and other Compt team members) vs freelance work strategically to maximize your time for high-leverage projects.
  • Content and SEO tech stack including WordPress, AHREFS, GA4, Webmaster Tools, HubSpot, Frase, and more
  • A new program spotlighting the voices of HR leaders and practitioners, turning customer insights into credible, relevant content that builds trust and converts.

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of content marketing experience in B2B SaaS
  • 2+ years leading content strategy with hands-on execution
  • A portfolio of strategic content tied to business results
  • Experience working in startups. You are energized by the fast pace, and even thrive in it
  • Strong storytelling, writing, and editing skills
  • AI fluency to accelerate ideation and creation, and to enhance content formats across the customer lifecycle
  • You’re curious, self-directed, and hungry to learn and improve
  • You actively seek feedback and give it thoughtfully
  • You’re comfortable with ambiguity and help bring clarity through collaboration
  • You take full ownership of your work – taking initiative, following through, and delivering with care
  • You enjoy working cross-functionally and co-creating with partners
  • You balance long-term vision with short-term momentum
  • While design skills aren’t required, you should be willing and able to update existing templates (e.g., blog thumbnails, social posts) and learn simple tools as needed to stay self-sufficient.

Bonus points if you...

  • Have experience creating or editing visual content like video clips, social graphics, or simple animations to support your written work and extend reach across channels.
  • Are building (or want to build!) your own personal brand as a thought leader in marketing or content creation, because when our people shine, Compt shines too.
  • Speaking of shines, bonus points if you can help us figure out how to have fewer “shine” graphics on this page.

How to apply
